NPC
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Thousands of worlds, thousands of Heroes and Heroines fighting till their last breath to defeat Evil Bosses and bring peace to their people. Thousands of legends and epic pomes woven through eons of history.
Behind all of it, stands proudly the NPC Ministry of Heroic Cultivation and Happy-Endings Protection. A multi-dimensional organization that helps the various Gods and Goddesses from different worlds raising Heroes and Heroines, guiding them through their adventures and leading them to defeat the Catastrophes, events or beings that endanger the balance of their world, through the dispatchment of well-trained NPCs.
You, a former Level 1 NPC Agent, leaving behind your days of giving out quests and repeating the same fixed phrases over and over, have been promoted to Level 3 NPC Guide. This is your nth mission, and you consider yourself a professional of the sector with a 100% success rate, yet this new adventure is bound to test your skills.
You have been assigned to Arsidela, a world managed by the Goddess of Light with the highest rate of Catastrophes and dead Heroes. Due to the numerous failures of your predecessors, you now have to raise a normal guy into a Hero worth of this name, relying on the limited resources the organization will manage to send you.
If you were to fail, it would cause the end of the world, your death at the hand of a furious Goddess, or even worse, your demotion to Level 1 NPC Agent.
Guide your Hero wisely, NPC Guide, the fate of Arsidela rests on your shoulders.

Install instructions
For Mac
The game was built on Windows, this means that we cannot give it execution permission, you'll have to do it yourself.
In order to do it, you should download the .zip and extract it to find the .app file.
Then, you should open a terminal in the folder where the .app file is located, and run the following command to give the game execution permissions:
chmod -R +x NPC_v0.1.1_NotTested.app/Contents/MacOS
If you still can't run the game because "Apple can't check for malware", just right click on the app and press "Open". From there, you should have the option to start the game anyway.
Please write to us if you can't still open the game.

NPC is by far one of the best prototypes I've played. The writing is really cheeky and well-humored and that makes the main character very likable. However...
At some point during the 12 minute mark of my playthrough I was just tired of reding so much text. I'm the type of player that doesn't skip any dialogue because I think it's cool to see what the characters have to say... but this is a 2d puzzle/platformer game. There is no need for so much dialogue, or at least not so much dialogue in the start of the game.
If the protagonist's banter with her incompetent bosses was spread out through more levels, it would be much more bearable I feel.
I spent so much time reading dialogue that I couldn't even get to level 3 without spending 17 minutes in the recording so maybe reducing dialogue (or spreading it through more levels) and giving more focus on the puzzle gameplay would be better to make the game's gameplay x story ratio a little more balanced
Also I noticed some sprites were scaled up a bit weirdly, making them seem low res. The main character looks very crisp but the slimes and rocks look low res for example.
Other than these issues, the game itself is very fun and you can see a lot of effort you guys put into it. Well done!
Guys, I cannot play your game on Mac because the app inside the zip cannot be opened :( (it's not the malware thing, it's just that it cannot be opened), do you think you can help me?
Hi, thank you for informing us.
It's a problem with unity when building applications for mac on windows.
I added a small guide on what to do to run it.
thank you, I haven't read all the guidelines about mac users because I thought they were only about the malware stuff :D
The game idea is nice, but the game itself feels a little bit too slow for me. Having a map of the whole level at the start and more information about the enemy maybe can improve the tactical aspect of it.
Yes, we are planning to add the possibility of inspecting the enemy status and also a more direct visual feedback to have an idea of the enemy type and power.
We also plan to add a map overview before the level starts.
The game is really good, with funny dialog and nice background music. I have nothing to say apart from that during the second level, I picked up an object and placed it but it didn't disappear from the box in the upper left.
Yes, we are currently changing how the inventory should work to make it easier to use and more stable. Right now due to the mouse selection it can sometimes duplicate items or block completely the drop if the object is selected.
The dialogues are very funny, in general this was a pleasant experience, and with more different ways to complete the level the game will be even better. No Particular issues or bugs found. Only note is that the breakable platforms are not very different from the others. Also the hero's characteristics seems to not influence too much at first, but maybe I need to go deeper into the game to understand it better.
Thank you for the feedback.
The characteristic implemented right now are just a prototype so they don't have much influence. We are already reviewing them to make them more significant as the game progresses.
Nice game! However, I encountered a bug in level 3: when I go on the left after spawning, I fall across the map :(
