On&Off is a cooperative puzzle‑platformer where two opposite entities, On (Black) and Off (White), must work together to reach the exit of each level and restore the balance between light and darkness. An intimate, minimalist, and reflective experience where what you see depends entirely on what you choose to illuminate.

On&Off is not just about solving puzzles, but about mutual dependence, about opposites that do not cancel each other out but complete one another. It is a quiet journey through a forgotten space, where even the faintest light can give birth to something new.

Story

Inside an old, abandoned house, wrapped in silence, a single light bulb still hangs from the ceiling. It is lonely, forgotten by time.

One night, it flickers.

From that fragile spark, On and Off are born, not people, but pure forms: living manifestations of light and darkness.

They cannot touch one another, yet they cannot exist without each other.

When the light is on, On’s world awakens among shadows and black surfaces. When the light is off, Off’s world emerges, shaped by brightness and white. Only gray remains unchanged: a fragile neutral space where their paths almost meet.

Moving through room after room, On and Off must learn to trust one another, coordinate their actions, and embrace their differences in order to reach the end of their journey.

Only together can they restore the balance between light and darkness.

Gameplay

The game is playable both in single player (controlling both characters) and in local multiplayer on the same keyboard.

The core mechanic of the game is light control:

  • Turning the light on or off radically changes the level.
  • Platforms, obstacles, and paths exist only under specific lighting conditions.
  • What is visible and solid for On may not exist for Off, and vice versa.

Each level is designed as a spatial puzzle where:

  • Coordination is essential,
  • Timing makes the difference,
  • And every choice affects both characters.

Players are constantly encouraged to observe, experiment, and think differently, switching between light and darkness to reveal new possibilities.
